Zayo is seeking a Fiber Network Planner to be responsible for planning and recommending capital dollar spend to support network augments, network overbuilds and network hardening. Our Fiber Network Planner role requires use of Inventory Systems to determine fiber burn rates and traffic patterns.

The Fiber Network Planner will create strategies to rectify excessive splice entries and abnormalities in the fiber network; will evaluate the existing fiber network for traffic patterns and formulate express and local routing via splicing plans at every major network intersection; will be responsible for program managing the hardening efforts to reduce outages and splice entries.


The Fiber Network Planner will also be responsible for creating and supporting Standards in the fiber network. This position requires constant and close interaction with Fiber Engineering, OSP PMs, Field Operations and Sales at the regional market level.

Responsibilities:

Understand the Fiber Network:

  • Build a strong relationship with Zayo's Outside Plant workforce, work closely with them to understand pain points and future network needs.

  • Work with Zayo Sales, Sales Engineers and Program Managers to identify, analyze, document, and design fiber network solutions to address customer needs. Provide options and recommendations that balance network impact and costs with optimized network configurations and customer requirements.

Manage and Implement Fiber Network Solutions:

  • Develop, communicate, and manage network planning / hardening effort for the intended audience with appropriate level of details in a consistent and accurate manner.

Manage work to meet network and customer commitments.

  • Involvement in prioritization of work, escalation of issues, and development of contingency plans. Facilitate meetings and work sessions where necessary to keep the project on time and on budget.

  • Manage changes to baselined requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools.

Anticipate Future Fiber Network Requirements:

  • Using database tools in IQGeo, GESW, ESRI and Salesforce, anticipate fiber route exhaustion and develop a plan to supplement capacity along highly utilized routes. Develop plans to move network connectivity from splice case to Pops where logistically feasible and economically practical.

  • Drive improvement in future customer implementation costs, timeframes and network quality.

Scope of Position:
Works under limited supervision, both independently and within a team environment. No direct supervisory responsibility. This is a complex position requiring extensive knowledge of the fiber network, fiber engineering, routing, and capacity management. Mistakes and/or failure to adequately perform job duties will have a direct and immediate impact on customer satisfaction and a direct impact on revenues and operations. Position impacts the largest company asset, the fiber network. Success enables the ease of implementation, reduction in install timing, cost and network outages. Frequent internal contact occur with all levels of employees, including senior management. Project Manage multiple projects and deliverables at once.

Qualifications:

  • Experience effectively gathering solution requirements through interviewing, observing, listening, facilitating design sessions and demonstrating analytical skills

  • Experience communicating information, both verbally and in writing, in simple, clear, unambiguous and concise language; understandable to a wide audience with broad technical and non-technical backgrounds

  • Experience in analytical and problem solving abilities

  • Experience in GIS platforms such as ESRI, GE Smallworld and IQGeo

  • Experience designing and configuring optimal fiber networks with a focus on customer experience and minimal customer impact

Base Pay Range:

$78,500 - 117,705 - USD Annual, commensurate with experience
