Job Description

We are currently seeking a Technical Publication Manager on behalf of our client, a leading supplier and integrator in today's power and energy markets. This is 1 yr. contract assignment.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire publication lifecycle of technical documents for our products and services. You will manage both internal and external resources, comprised of technical writers, editors, illustrators, and other specialists who produce manuals, guides, reports, proposals, white papers, training videos, augmented reality solutions, on-line help solutions and more.

The person will be ensuring the quality, accuracy, consistency, and compliance of technical documents with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices. The person will also coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, such as engineers, product managers, customers, vendors, and media, to gather information, feedback, and requirements for technical publications.

Location: Westborough, MA

Hybrid position: 4 days in office with one at home

Responsibilities

Publication Management

  • Manage an internal and external team of technical publication specialists who produce technical documents, such as manuals, guides, reports, proposals, white papers, training videos, augmented reality solutions, on-line help solutions, etc.
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency, and compliance of technical documents with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, such as engineers, product managers, customers, vendors, and media, to gather information, feedback, and requirements for technical publications.
  • Establish and maintain publication processes, procedures, tools, and templates to optimize workflow and efficiency.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, and monitor publication projects and deadlines.
  • Review, edit, and approve technical documents before publication or delivery.

Publication Strategy

  • Develop and implement publication strategies, policies, and guidelines to align with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate and report on the performance, effectiveness, and impact of technical publications.
  • Research and stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in technical communication and publication.
  • Identify opportunities for publication innovation and improvement based

Key knowledge, Skill, Abilities, and Attitudes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and supervise a team of internal and external technical publication specialists.
  • Proficient in various publication tools, software, and platforms, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, RoboHelp, Framemaker, Heretto, xDocs, or other cCMS solutions, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in various publication standards, formats, and styles, such as APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, etc.
  • Familiar with various technical domains, concepts, and terminology, depending on the industry and audience of the technical publications.
  • Creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate innovative and effective publication solutions.
  • Detail-oriented, quality-focused, and customer-oriented, with the ability to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and relevance of technical publications.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and collaborative, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, under pressure and with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Passion for technology, innovation, and continuous learning.

Requirements

Education/ Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical communication, technology journalism, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Five years of experience in technical writing, editing, or publication for highly technical, safety-critical industrial equipment with long lifecycles and many stakeholders.
  • Experience in the renewable energy or energy storage industry is a plus.
  • Travel
  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel will be required for field, customer and supplier visits and for collaboration with colleagues both domestically and internationally.
