Position: Production Team Leader

Location: Newport, TN

Wage: $29.00/hr

Shift: rotating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

While reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for leading and working hands on along with a team in our Tube and Core Division. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have a safety-first mindset with the ability to work within various teams, along with a good eye to spot defects in the work performed. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading a Team of approximately 30 production employees using multiple manufacturing lines to produce tubes and cores.
  • Collaborating closely with other departments and teams
  • Making incremental process adjustments, monitor and report quality of manufactured product
  • Consistently providing expected deliverables and required administrative tasks
  • Driving and inspiring team to improve performance to meet and exceed goals
  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to setup new jobs and operate various manufacturing machines is very important
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area, Familiarity with 5S a plus.
  • Performing all duties as designated by plant manager and in support of Sonoco's quality and safety policies
  • Assisting other departments as needed

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • 5 years prior manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience in manufacturing leading a crew/ team required.
  • Ability to lead by example and hold reports accountable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to do basic production related computations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is desired.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity in relation to safety, quality, and customer service.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions and specification sheets.
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude with the ability to logically troubleshoot and solve machine issues.
  • Possess an understanding of continuous improvement methodology and experience with continuous improvement tools
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities and lead improvements
  • Must have knowledge of computer-based programs - Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
