SUMMARY
Effectively leads all employees in the Surface Department. The Lead is responsible for the overall performance, direction, coordination, and evaluation of workflow of their shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Duties
* Expedites workflow and assists in all areas of the department when needed which includes performing Machine Calibration
* Examines defective machinery to determine cause of malfunction and reports needs to Supervisor/Maintenance Department
* Inspects work in progress and rejected product to ensure conformance to quality standards
* Leads by example in regard to performance, attendance, safety policies/procedures, 5S, etc.
* Become familiar with reviewing and analyzing DVI, breakage, and key indicator reports to determine cause of quality or production issues and take action to solve issues
* Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
* Analyzes and resolves work related problems and/or assists employees in solving work related problems
* The Lead Lab Technician is responsible for maintaining quality-oriented production throughout the department, developing not only oneself, but those that he/she is working with and coaching. Assist in developing our employee's knowledge base and aid in their development within the department and company.
* Effectively performs all calibrations for Surface Department machinery at the required times.

Secondary Duties
* May be assigned other duties as determined by the Surface Supervisor and/or General Manager

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
* High School Diploma required

Experience
* Some Optical Experience required
* Supervisory or Management experience helpful, but not required (Company will train if needed)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Lead by example
* Able and willing to work as a team and possesses good people skills
* Good written and oral communication skills
* Basic Math Skills are essential
* Excellent Trouble Shooting skills
* Basic Computer skills are essential

o Production flow issues and attendance coverage
o WIP Manager reports - DVI - and any others
o Group meetings (daily / weekly)
o Daily understanding of the entire picture within the Surface Department and how they feed work to all other departments.

o Shares the load of responsibilities within the department

o Allows for positive criticism to be received as well as offered from subordinates as well as management
* Ethics: Treats people with respect; Keeps commitments; Inspires the trust of others; Works Ethically and with integrity; Upholds organizational values.
* Must possess adequate computer skills
* Must be able to work Overtime and Saturdays when needed
* Able to read and write English Language well
* Able to memorize large amounts of data accurately

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, etc. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Safety Requirements
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
* Understands and applies the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and the Hazard Communication Program and all aspects of Safety. Leads by example in this area.
