Job Description

Our biology tutors (Science Learning Center) provide assistance to students by helping with lecture or lab material in biology courses, as well as help with study methods, or technology needed to complete course related material. Tutors may also assist with answering general questions about the college, providing assistance and guidance to college services.

Location of Work: Tutoring will take place primarily in person at either the main campus (North Canton), there is a potential of working in Akron, as needed (substitute tutoring).

Hours of Work: Flexible during outlined times for the Science Learning Center (SLC).
SLC is open Monday through Thursday 10am to 7pm.

Hourly Pay Range: $14.81/hour to $19.99/hour

Are you passionate about unraveling the mysteries of life and inspiring the next generation of biologists? In this role, you will empower students to excel in coursework through personalized support and guidance.

Typical duties include:
  • Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions for biology, microbiology, or anatomy and physiology courses, focusing on specialized topics.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere conducive to academic success for all students.
  • Assist biology students in mastering the art of lab report writing, guide microbiology students in categorizing microbes and identifying them under a microscope, and support anatomy and physiology students in breaking down complex physiological processes.
  • Utilize engaging and interactive methods to enhance student understanding and retention of course material.
  • Collaborate with faculty and fellow Learning Coaches to develop tailored resources and workshops to support student learning.
To be considered you'll need:
A bachelor's degree in biology or closely related field such as a medical degree, chiropractor, exercise physiology, or physical therapy is required with course(s) in anatomy or physiology is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous tutoring experience is desired but not required.
  • Comfortable with both in-person and online instruction platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
