Job Description



This UAW represented position includes:

- Ensuring the timely presence and movement of all available parts, materials, and stock as indicated by production and shipping schedules and as required for machining, fabrication, assembly, inspection, shipping and receiving.

- Checks, counts, selects, loads, unloads, gathers, and transports stock and material about the plant and premises, between plants, offices, and other locations considered within a geographic area.

- Operate light trucks, cars, and material handling devices such as gasoline and electric powered trucks known as hi los, jitneys, lift trucks, mules, etc.; hydraulic jack trucks, power operated hand trucks, small booms, and other special lifting devices.

- Checks incoming, outgoing, and stored materials, and compares with appropriate paper work to verify quantities.

- Observes engineering change notices and sees that new parts and parts incorporating changes are started at the correct effective points.

- Makes frequent inventories and spot checks.

- Makes lists of parts not available in advance of daily production requirements (known as "daily shortage" and "tie up").

- Sees that parts and subassemblies produced in the section are delivered to the section where they are to be used.

- Responsible for identifying materials by part number, quantity and condition.

- Must inventory parts, either by means of automation or piece count, manually. Repack, in standard containers, material with a specified quantity.

- Responsible for securing, labeling and marking containers and identifying errors from suppliers (i.e. too much material/not enough material) and process proper Receiving Discrepancy Report.

- Process, develop and prepare required kits for assembly lines, tank shipping and Government. - Will handle Manufacturing Control System transactions, following procedures and manufacturing resource planning guidelines.

- Maintains close working relation with planning contact workers, plant schedulers, production, inspection, receiving and material supervisors.

- Keeps records such as assembly cards, prints, production schedule and release reference cards.

- Makes out various forms and tickets relating to material transfers and disposition.

- Reads blueprints and becomes familiar with names and part numbers of a large number of parts.

- Tends tool cribs and non productive supply stockrooms.

- Dispenses tools, repair parts, equipment and supplies on requisition. Keeps inventory records and requisitions replacement stock as required and verifies receipt of same.

- May operate mechanical mixing and dispensing equipment. May operate a power saw to cut steel stock as requisitioned.

- Performs general clerical work in factory offices and incidental typing and filing.

- Clean up his/her immediate work area. Under exceptional circumstances, may be assigned to perform general cleaning in the department area. This classification does not include general routine department cleaning.

- Pre and/or post operation and safety checks for equipment.

- Perform administrative tasks relating to the classification.

- May also be required to handle/manage hazardous waste from time to time.
