Mott MacDonald is looking for a Civil engineering lead to support projects in our Pittsburgh and Great Lakes offices. As our technical lead, you will collaborate closely with senior team members to develop effective civil design solutions that meet the expectations of the client.

You will have extensive knowledge in the design of stormwater and drainage infrastructure, water and wastewater infrastructure including pump stations and treatment facilities, general utilities, roadways, and site development for multidisciplinary projects from concept, feasibility, and detailed design through construction stages. In addition, you will prepare or oversee preparation of construction drawings and technical specifications prepared by you and others working on the project.

Responsibilities will include these:

  • Engage as part of large multidisciplinary teams and review design documents for consistency and coordination
  • Sometimes lead the large multidisciplinary team
  • Lead the infrastructure design including roadways, utilities, stormwater water and sanitary sewers, water mains, site grading, and drainage
  • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic calculations and analysis to evaluate and develop solutions for stormwater designs including drainage, stormwater management, green infrastructure, and low-impact development principles
  • Prepare calculations, engineering design plans, technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Engage in verbal and written communications with clients, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Develop technical libraries and support digital innovations within the organization
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver complex civil infrastructure projects within budget and timeline, and to the requirements of the client.
  • Perform project reporting including progress and finance as required
  • Mentor and train junior staff
  • Lead a design team whose members may not all be in the same office

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Registered Professional Engineer with 15+ years of experience working in all facets of civil engineering
  • Previous experience mentoring, training, or leading junior staff
  • Experience working in Civil 3-D
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with others in Revit
  • AutoCAD and MicroStation experience
