About our group:

You will be working in the HAMR Media Recording Physics and Advanced Development group at the Seagate Recording Media Research Center in Fremont, CA, where we develop the state of art magnetic and thermal, recording characterization for HAMR magnetic recording media to further extend data storage capacity. The team works closely with other teams in Media R&D, and various Seagate organizations around the world. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and learn from others on the team. About the role - you will:

The candidate will work with other engineers in the Recording Physics and Advanced Development group at Seagate Recording Media R&D center to develop and improve existing hard disc drive testing and recording characterizations tools to evaluate, validate and improve the HAMR (Heat Assited Magnetic Recording) media.

  • Maintain Drive Evaluation testers (Gemini) in good working conditions, including system upgrade per requirements. These Gemini testers are used for drive cert processes in our Drive Verification Lab.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve drive tester issues. When needed, collaborate with other Seagate sites (drive centers) for instructions, upgrading and troubleshooting.
  • Run Drive certification operations including Drive build info generator, certifications start, etc.
  • Perform first level failure analysis; Conduct trouble shooting including hardware, test code and provide corrective actions.
  • Opportunity to learn and support magnetic metrology development and spin-stand tester for magnetic and recording characterization.

Your experience includes:

  • Electrical Engineering application or related experiences in test equipment for sensitive electric devices are required.
  • Strong knowledge and Hand on experiences with maintaining or operating electrical testing clusters operated with UNIX System
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering related field (i.,e Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 5+ years of experience or Master's Degree in the same and 3+ years' experience or PhD and 0+ years' experience or equivalent experience and education

You might also have:

  • Background and experiences in hard-disc drive testing, test algorithm and tester electronics are a plus.
  • UNIX operating system experiences are a plus.
  • Other helpful skills include:
    • Motion Control Mechanical design and integration
    • Electrical design and integration for electric system and data aqusition control
    • Optical alignment and integration

The estimated base salary range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area is : $113,339.00-$168,305.00. Actual salary range is based on the regional labor market of the role in the geography in which the position is located based on the requirements of the job and your skills. This posted salary range is a good faith and reasonable estimate, and Seagate reserves the right to adjust this range depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
