What you'll do

As a Sr. Database Administrator at DocuSign you will work with a group of like peers to help support the existing database systems, while designing the next version of the infrastructure. We have no down time and demand very high availability from our system (we strive for five 9s). When not supporting the existing systems, you will help collaborate with engineering, architecture, and product management to create the next great platform features that will drive impact. You will share in an On-Call rotation to support the platform 24/7. We are pushing the boundaries of what's possible with SQL server and this position will push your SQL skills to the next level.


This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Database Manager.


Responsibility

  • Provide database monitoring and support of multiple 24/7 Enterprise SQL Server AlwaysOn availability groups and SQL Server replication; by troubleshooting issues as they occur, working with the Operations Team during incidents, resolving problems quickly and to a high standard
  • Maintain database performance; by identifying and resolving production and application development problems; calculating optimum parameter values; evaluating new release code, answering developer questions and advising on code changes
  • Develop and configure database solutions; configuration of new systems, defining database structure, improving security, ensuring back-ups and restores meet audit requirements
  • Patch servers to meet audit requirements using automation
  • Ensure all database systems meet RPO & RTO policies
  • Participate in CIS, ISO, STIG, PCI and IRAP information security compliance work as needed
  • Work with the Engineering Team to design and optimize coding solutions
  • Work with the Operations Team to manage, install and configure servers in multiple data centers around the world
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
  • Participate in an On-Call rotation

Job Designation

Remote: Employee is not required to be in or near an office frequently and works from a designated remote work location for the majority of the time.

What you bring

Basic

  • 8+ years' experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • 3+ years' with SQL 2017
  • 3+ years' experience with SQL 2019
  • Strong database production support experience and efficient handling of incidents
  • Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting AlwaysOn availability groups and WSFC's
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting other HA technologies, including replication
  • Proven ability in troubleshooting, problem solving and issue analysis
  • Experience in performance tuning slow running queries to reduce resource usage
  • Experience in recommending best practice designs for coding changes
  • Ability to work closely with engineers to resolve issues and improve systems

Preferred

  • In depth knowledge of backing up, restoring, and moving SQL databases along with the ability to plan and implement sophisticated Disaster Recovery strategies
  • Understanding of server setup and configuration for optimal resource usage
  • Good understanding of database design concepts and impact on systems
  • A strong team player who enjoys working in a collaborative environment
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with SQL 2022
  • Experience in setup, configuration and maintenance of Azure Managed Instances, SQL Server on Azure VM's and Azure SQL Database
  • Able to work in an environment with a mix of on-prem and Cloud solutions
  • Experience using SolarWinds SQL Sentry to monitor, troubleshoot and resolve performance issues
  • Possess a strong understanding of database theories, principles, and best practices
  • High level knowledge of Windows and Windows security and how they affect SQL Server
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation
  • A quick learner who enjoys working in a fast paced environment
  • Experience working in a global team environment with colleagues around the world

  • Familiar with Google suite

Wage Transparency

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $146,800.00 - $235,025.00 base salary

Illinois and Colorado: $139,800.00 - $197,400.00 base salary

Washington and New York (including NYC metro area): $139,800.00 - $207,325.00 base salary
