What You'll Do

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be a highly trained professional responsible for the oversight of engineering employees as well as technical and engineering processes and programs for Standex. Your duties will include planning and implementing large projects, proposing budgets and schedules, and training other employees. You will manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in engineering projects and confer with internal and external customers on project specifications, designs, or procedures.

  • Manage and guide multi-discipline engineers and technicians.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire top-ranked engineering talent.
  • Set performance objectives, monitor progress, and complete performance assessments.
  • Provide timely, constructive support, and feedback regularly.
  • Provide mentoring and career development to each team member.
  • Provide appropriate tools and resources for your team's development activities.
  • Assign, manage, and support the planning and execution of the team's workload.
  • Resolve conflicts to achieve optimal business results.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and technical direction to team members and customers.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to provide technical information, engineering recommendations, action plans, and identification/evaluation of risk.
  • Assist commercial and technical personnel with program feasibility assessments and proposals.
  • Review and approve requirements, design criteria, and product designs.
  • Lead the sustainment of existing, and creation of new designs, to meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure the appropriate level of technical staffing to support programs.
  • Apply project management skills to lead, plan, organize, and oversee the work of the team to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Leverage problem-solving skills to find solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Contribute to business and engineering strategic planning and execution.
  • Support new product development and innovation projects as required.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement activities to improve processes within the organization and leverage synergies across multiple sites.
  • Develop and implement best practices, standards, policies, and procedures for the engineering department.
  • Support the implementation and use of lean methodologies such as Daily Visual Management, A3 Problem Solving, and Kaizen.
  • Lead/guide Root Cause and Correct Action (RCCA) and countermeasure activities to fix problems and improve performance.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs to communicate and improve organizational performance.
  • Attend trade shows, and conferences, and conduct supplier visits as required.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in technology.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
  • Lead from the front to help realize the vision/mission of the engineering organization: "To be the benchmark for engineering excellence in the magnetics industry, recognized for our technical capability, delivering effective and efficient services, with the appropriate level of responsiveness and accuracy."
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Must be U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Direct experience and qualifications will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering program.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience required.
  • Ability to travel 20%.

What We Value

  • Degree in an Engineering program accredited by ABET preferred.
  • 10+ years of Engineering experience preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience in designing & developing custom electromagnetic components and systems. Power/RF Magnetics (Inductors and Transformers), power electronics, capacitors, or semiconductor background desired.
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and leading top multi-disciplined engineering talent.
  • Strong level of business acumen and the ability to understand various business scenarios.
  • Experience with International and United States Safety Standards (i.e. IEC/UL).
  • Knowledge of applicable Military Specifications for Magnetic Components.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated skills managing projects of various sizes and complexity.
  • Experience with lean methodologies, their use, and experience with their implementation a plus.
  • Knowledge of coil, transformer, and inductor design.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability.
  • Understanding of 2D/3D Modeling Software, Finite Element Analysis, and Simulation Software.
  • Strong self-management skills including accountability, goal setting, self-motivation, and time management.
  • Strong organizational skills with a process-oriented mindset.
