JOB MISSION:


New Balance is seeking a DataOps engineer in the Global BI, Data & Analytics team. As a DataOps Engineer, you will play a significant role in the smooth operations of our global data platform by designing, implementing, and operating processes and tools that enable data innovation, increase trust in the data and speed up the development cycle. You will work collaboratively with data engineers, analysts, and cross functional teams to help deliver quality data products.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Own the agile DataOps process for the design, processing, and maintenance of data in our heterogeneous and distributed architecture.
  • By your actions, improve data quality and outcome for the data engineering, analytics and data science users and producers of data.
  • Document those improvements by producing reports on data quality, trustability, observability to inform the team and the management on our operations and data KPIs.
  • Improve and drive change into our development and delivery process across the whole data environment. Implement a true CI/CD environment for infrastructure, code, and data.
  • Evaluate database / schema change management tools. Integrate such tools in our development and deployment processes.
  • Design and implement a unified way to get logging information on our processes to monitor, alert and report on them.
  • Help administrate and operate our Data Dictionary and Data Quality tool.
  • Be a steward of our data processes and help create and maintain documentation and conduct trainings inside and outside the team to foster good data operations and practices. Encourage test driven development and provide a framework for automated testing based on reusable environments.
  • Help implement data governance policies wherever the data is accessed (Databricks, Snowflake, Spotfire). Document and version control those policies and grants.
  • Take part in general Snowflake and Databricks administration and automate administrative tasks.
  • Be part of discussions on evaluating build vs buy and be involved with third-party vendors.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with focus on data engineering preferable.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data engineering/Dev Ops or related field in data services.
  • Fluency with a scripting or programming language, Python preferred, as well as SQL.
  • Experience with a cloud environment, Azure preferred.
  • Experience with the operations of cloud databases, orchestration tools and processing engines. Azure Data Factory, Databricks (PySpark) and Snowflake preferred.
  • Familiarity with both batch and streaming data operations.
  • Experience with GitHub, including GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with a data catalog and data governance tool such as Alation.
  • Familiarity with data quality, data testing or DataOps tools.
  • Proactive and collaborative mindset in implementing tooling and proper DataOps practices to achieve the team's and the business' goals.
  • Possess intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn new skills/technologies
  • Excellent work ethic and communication skills

Flexible Work Schedule
