Senior Transportation Technician

S&ME is seeking an individual to join our CEI team in Cincinnati, Ohio as a Senior Transportation Technician - CEI Inspector and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.


What You Will Do:

As a Senior Transportation Technician - CEI Inspector you will take charge of overseeing and inspecting a variety of transportation projects, including roadways, bridges, rail, pedestrian facilities, ports, and aviation infrastructure. Responsible for ensuring contractor compliance with project contracts, plans, and specifications, observing and inspecting diverse construction operations, and conducting materials sampling and testing. As a senior member of the team, you may supervise and provide technical guidance to junior staff, with your work subject to review by higher-level professionals.

  • Preparing reports, diaries, and documentation, performing calculations, and inspecting erosion control devices.
  • Verify line and grade using survey equipment, prepare field books for payment documentation, and attend meetings.
  • Oversight and inspection of transportation projects, ensuring contractor compliance.
  • Interaction with third-party construction personnel and performing compliance surveys.

Transportation Technicians encounter diverse environmental and field challenges, such as varying weather conditions, heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, construction site hazards, and heavy machinery. They may work extended hours, including weekends and holidays. Must be capable of lifting and carrying 40-50lbs., maneuver field equipment safely, including loaded wheelbarrows, on uneven ground and around active construction sites. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided to ensure safety in these demanding environments.

Who You Are:

  • You have a High school diploma/GED
  • You have one of the following:
    • A minimum of 7 years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
    • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with a minimum of 5 years of highway-related construction experience
  • You have at least 4 active DOT-based certifications
  • You have basic math and technical writing skills
  • You have experience with Roadway and Structure projects
  • You have American Concrete Institute (ACI) and/or other industry-related certifications (construction, CEI), a plus
  • You have OSHA 10HR Construction Certification, a plus
