Position Description: Prepare detailed estimates for the project based on the design documents, narratives, and specifications, focusing on the Electrical/Technology/LV System trades.

Reports to: Preconstruction Manager / MEP Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities*: Specifically relating to the electrical systems:

  • Lead estimating responsibility for complex projects such as Mission Critical, Market Segment, and Government jobs with MEP package contract value of $25M+.
  • Communicate estimate and scopes of work to stakeholders (e.g., project staff, architects, engineers, and owners).
  • Prepare complete quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for Electrical, Technology, and/Low Voltage system items incorporated in assigned scope - from conceptual design through completed construction documents. Preliminary design work may be required to complete conceptual estimates.
  • Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents (e.g., plans, specificationsto determine required scope not already indicated.
  • Develop working relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing of lighting, distribution equipment, low voltage systems, and miscellaneous material pricing.
  • Develop working relationships with local Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage system trade partners to build and maintain active list of qualified bidders for projects.
  • Perform constructability analysis of project documents. Communicate design and constructability issues to project team and other stakeholders in accordance with project contract.
  • Provide first costs analysis and participate in life cycle analysis with Design team.
  • Participate in decision making process with Operations and Procurement to determine MEP trade partnersto utilize in project pursuits.
  • Lead company-wide or regional MEP strategic initiatives and/or special projects.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise of Electrical, Technology, and /Low Voltage system for project pursuits.
  • Participate in developing and implementing MEP training.
  • Lead integration of MEP Operations staff during MEP PreCon process and serve as resource to guide and consult with staff through to construction.
  • Work together with Operations and Estimator staff to properly address general conditions and general requirements items in estimate including, but not limited to, items such as temporary heating/cooling, electrical, power, lighting, and estimating of electrical and natural gas consumption during construction.
  • Coordinate equipment pricing with SourceBlue for Electrical, Technology, and/Low Voltage system estimates.
  • Conductvalue analysis complete with cost efficient alternatives to proposed Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage system materials and equipment.
  • Serve as liaison with Engineers, Design consultants, Trade partners, other Turner staff, and Owner's representatives to resolve Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage system issues related to project preconstruction efforts.
  • Prepare and assemble estimates and proposals for different contract types (e.g., lump sum, GMP, Cost Plus).
  • Participate in estimate reviews with Design team and client.
  • Participate in project hand-off to Operations to ensure proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to Operations.
  • Participate in authoring scope requisitions for bidding/procurement of Electrical, Technology, and/Low Voltage systemsand coordinate with fellow estimators to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps.
  • Evaluate subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work to determine scope coverage and manage identified scope gaps risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field, and minimum of 8 years of related Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage systems estimating experience or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage systems
  • Formulate advanced scenarios to address known and unknown scope relative to comprehensive cost analysis for Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage systems, based on contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
  • Leverage relationships with vendors, trade partners, and project team members to elevate client service
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands in deadline-driven environment
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills to deliver presentations with confidence
  • Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Supervisory experience desired, able to delegate, coordinate work of others, monitor performance, and deliver feedback
