Quality Engineer - US - Dayton, OH

The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Apex Tool Group is currently looking for a Quality Engineer at our flagship manufacturing facility in Dayton, OH. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for will be responsible for the management, analysis, and evaluation of integrated systems for managing quality processes and key performance indicators. He or she will use lean and tools / concepts (such as ISO, 8Ds, 5 Whys, FMEA, Control Plans, APQP, PPAP, MSA, DMAIC), to continuously improve the quality of products and reduce the cost of quality.

The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Manager. The Quality Engineer will serve as a key point of contact for Quality concerns with suppliers and customers. In this role, the Quality Engineer will work closely with our Operations and Quality Teams to understand and analyze issues for a quality performance dashboard.

The Build (Responsibilities)

* Develop standardized workflow for incoming inspection criteria and escalation based on historical data/trends

* Develop, evaluate, improve and monitor quality systems to identify issues and corrective / preventative actions

* Drive process enhancements for supplier qualification process and internal corrective actions

* Analyze and identify failure modes to drive improved quality performance

* Maintain a quality dashboard which highlights key performance indicators by department

* Coordinate and implement quality control activities and processes to resolve manufacturing issues, while maximizing product reliability

* Participate in projects to ensure quality throughout the manufacturing and assembly processes (8Ds, 5 Whys, APQP, FMEAs, Control Plans, etc.)

* Support identification of Poka-Yoke systems to achieve sustainable continuous improvement

* Support the collection and analysis related to cost of quality and continuous improvement opportunities

* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


The Toolbox (Qualifications)

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline

* 3+ years' experience using advanced quality tools in a manufacturing environment, including but not limited to Problem Solving / Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, Control Plans, GR&R, Capability studies, and Product/Process Validation

* Proficient in Office 365 Products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

* Knowledge and understanding of ANSI AQL sampling criteria and ISO 9001

* Ability to effectively problem solve and lead others in the usage of Quality Tools

* Experience developing and implementing databases is preferred

* Experience in a precision machining environment is preferred

* Prior experience with ISO systems management and support is preferred
