Job Description

Nature and Scope

This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the R&D laboratory including but not limited to, maintaining upkeep of the R&D laboratory areas, inventory logging and stocking, review of logins, assisting with sample movement, and routine checks of laboratory equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive purchased items, samples shipments, etc. from the warehouse/dock and stock them in the laboratory.
  • Log in all reagents purchased per the appropriate SOP and stock the lab with logged in reagents.
  • Assist in conducting routine inventory on stock items including reagents, reference standards and gas cylinders. Check for and remove expired items, reorder new stock, document receipt and restock labs as necessary.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping is maintained in the R&D areas including laboratories, formulation areas, hallways, washroom, and stability chambers. This will include, sweeping, mopping, triple rinsing of reagent bottles, and organization.
  • Assist Sample Coordinator in sample movement within the laboratory space.
  • Handle and wash the glassware used in the lab, including pipets. Fill out appropriate logs for handwashing and autowashing. Maintain the automatic washers as needed.
  • Perform daily checks of various laboratory equipment within the laboratory area, including water systems, temperature, standalone stability chambers, etc.
  • Ensures all work is performed and documented in accordance with existing Company policies and procedures, as well as cGMP and health and safety requirements.
  • Perform any other tasks/duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • H.S. diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience; at least one year working in a laboratory environment preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, calculation of averages and percentages.
  • Sufficient knowledge of English language to understand Standard Operating Procedures and operating manuals.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently, recognizing what needs to be done and accomplishing it with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written/oral) required.
  • PC Skills and basic knowledge of MS-Office required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Physical Environment and Requirements

  • Physically able to wear laboratory protective gowning and equipment, including but not limited to gowning, goggles, face shields, respirators, and protective gloves. PPE and Respirators are essential for the health and safety of employees.
  • Specific vision requirements include 20/20 near vision (can be corrected with eyeglasses or contacts) and color vision.
  • Employees must maintain a clean-shaven appearance each working shift to wear tight-fitting respirators properly.
  • Employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing duties of the job, incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; talk and hear.
