Applied Research Solutions is seeking a full-time Junior Assessment Engineer located at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. The Junior Assessment Engineer's primary function will be to support the development and deployment of state-of-the-art sensor exploitation solutions for the defense and intelligence community by curating data sets, designing and executing experiments, and assessing sensor exploitation algorithm performance in various operating conditions while supporting MEAMS.

Responsibilities include:

  • Determine data requirements (for WAMI, SAR, EO/IR, FMV or possibly other sensor modalities) to meet sensor exploitation algorithm training and performance assessment needs
  • Help plan data collections to meet data requirements, help with the data collections, and help inventory and maintain data collection equipment
  • Identify and download correlated commercial and other imagery (or other data) to meet data requirements
  • Review, organize, document, characterize (operating condition difficulty), and truth (annotate) WAMI, SAR, EO/IR, FMV data (or possibly data from other sensor modalities)
  • Help design and setup data characterization and truthing processes for WAMI, SAR, EO/IR, FMV data (and possibly other modalities); help train and monitor truthers; help review, validate, and/or correct data truth
  • Help design sensor exploitation algorithm performance experiments (include data train/test partitioning, experiment operating condition bins, and performance metrics)
  • Create (or adapt existing) software tools to extract, process, or organize sensor data or associated metadata or sensor exploitation algorithm output data, or to execute experiments, score experiments (calculate metrics), and facilitate analysis
  • Review, investigate, analyze, characterize and document scored experiment results
  • Help prepare documents/reports (plans, descriptions, instructions, project status, experiment results, etc.), prepare and deliver presentations or demonstrations to communicate with managers, customers, algorithm developers and other project stakeholders; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Minimum 1-5 years of experience in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Must be able to obtain/retain a SECRET Security Clearance and upgrade to TS/SCI
  • Must possess strong Math, analytical, and troubleshooting/debugging skills
  • Experience with Linux Operating Systems and shell scripting for automating/batching tasks is desired
  • Experience with Python highly desired and preferred
  • Experience with and knowledgeable of other programming languages (Java, C, C++, Perl, etc.) is acceptable
  • Experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL databases and querying language is desired
  • Experience with Sensor Exploitation algorithms, sensor phenomenology, Computer Vision, or Machine Learning processes, testing and evaluation, and data analysis is desired
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering development process, experience in developing and testing sensor processing systems
  • Familiarity with various sensor modalities (SAR, EO/IR, WAMI, FMV, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer interaction skills
  • Ability to develop a highly effective working relationship with the customer and teammates
  • Ability to integrate with other organizations/teams.
