Responsibilities

Our residential treatment facility is currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Youth Care Specialist to work with at-risk youth receiving treatment services for trauma. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing daily care and supervision to our residents, while working collaboratively with a team of professionals to ensure the delivery of quality care. A Youth Care Specialist works closely with our youth ensuring our residents are safe and programming successfully within our facility. This position allows you to utilize your own creativeness to support our youth on a daily basis. The Specialist provides direct care, safety and security, and supervision of residents through positive role modeling. The Youth Care Specialist actively works to support the facility mission of providing an environment of safety so that the residents feel empowered to heal the wounds of the past and build a foundation of hope for the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and staff.
  • Implement and follow through with treatment plans for residents.
  • Provide daily care, supervision, and support to residents.
  • Participate in therapeutic groups and activities.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of resident progress and behavior.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • At least one year of experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care and treatment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in challenging situations.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or GED required and one (1) year experience working in a children's services program or residential setting is preferred. Associate or bachelor's degree in human services, psychology or related field preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Valid State Driver's License with appropriate Endorsements and

Certified in CPR and First Aid (part of orientation class)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use fingers or hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Therapeutic Hold

The employee may occasionally be required to physically restrain clients, using authorized hold procedures as a last resort for protection of resident and staff.

Work Environment

The work environment for this position is a residential facility setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self- destructive behaviors. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be subject to occasional local travel as required by facility needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
