Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for a Bridge EIT to join our Transportation Business Group. In this role, we'll count on you to:

  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of bridge designs.
  • Work on projects that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete beams, etc.), box culvert, and miscellaneous structure design for highway and railway projects.
  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, and develop structural details using specialized software.
  • Participate in bridge inspection, perform structural load calculations, and assist with geometric layout and quantity development.
  • Work closely with Project Engineers and Managers to gain the needed engineering experience to obtain their professional engineering license. Abilities at this level to assist with task/project management functions and preparation of technical and price estimates are a plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • EIT or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire required; those hired without their EIT will have the title 'designer'
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CADD and structural design software.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design
  • Good communication skills and willing to work in a team environment
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: MathCAD, MicroStation, LARSA, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, RM Bridge, spColumn, LUSAS, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge
  • Experience in bridge/structural design
  • Experience reviewing contractor shop drawings for bridge and miscellaneous structures projects is preferred.
  • Experience with Design/Build projects is a plus.
