Inside the Role

Daimler Truck Test Fleet is a Sleeper Team/Long-haul fleet operation that transports critical freight between Portland OR, Texas and North Carolina (Drop and Hook) to support the supply chain that keeps our Truck Plants running. This is a sleeper fleet, 2 drivers per truck, transporting expedited material. Test Fleet also facilities DTNA Engineering in testing and customer experience feedback to help make our products best in class.

Looking for experienced long-haul drivers of Class A vehicles, with sleeper team/long-haul experience, familiarity and skills with winter driving, and a strong sense of comradery and teamwork.

This is a Teamsters Local 81 position. The driver will partner with a sleeper team driver in the Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA) Test Fleet to support our Truck Manufacturing Plants and Consolidation Centers. This position will start out as a Casual driver, with further opportunity to expand into the Test Fleet full-time.

Position offers a salary up to $105,000 USD per year

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

Days off: Long weekends and "off-weeks" after 5 long-haul runs, generous holiday and vacation pay, and predictable time off around Christmas/New Years. Pension ($10/Hour). 100% medical premium employer paid

What You Drive at DTNA

  • Maintain strong partnership with sleeper team partner and fleet.
  • Fill out pre/post trip inspections, trip paperwork, and Electronic Driver Logs
  • Safely and reliably, drive a Class A Freightliner or Western Star between Portland, OR, NC (Charlotte/Gastonia/Gaffney), and TX (Laredo/Del Rio).
  • Problem solve: Work your contacts within fleet, cross-docks, and maintenance providers when challenges occur.
  • Review, read, and understand Manifests and Bill of Ladings.
  • Identify potentially hazardous situations.
  • Maneuver truck and trailer in tight areas.
  • Understand and adhere to DOT & Governmental rules and regulations relevant to over the road transportation.
  • Use experience and best judgement to make smart field decisions about route changes and other variables to get the job done.
  • Communicate effectively with fleet support team to ensure proper tracking of loads, and health of our routes/equipment.
  • Take pride in our fleet, and our brand, capturing customer experience on the road for engineering to use to improve our vehicles.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • 5+ Years of Long Haul Class A-CDL "Team" Driving experience required.
  • 5+ Years of Sleeper Class A-CDL "Sleeper Team" Driving experience required.
  • Winter Driving experience required.
  • Understanding of driver regulations and Hours of Service required.
  • Clear history of accidents required.
  • An attached resume is required.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Class A- CDL required.

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • 5+ Years of Sleeper Class A-CDL Team Driving experience preferred.
  • Hazardous Material Certified preferred (with ability of obtaining within the three month)
