Job Summary:

The Machine Control Product Expert optimizes automatic machine performance via controller tuning, product development recommendations and development of operator best practices. Working together with project management and engineering, will further develop and streamline the system optimization and validation processes. Will be able to competently create/execute test plans and provide debug data to engineering when field issues arise. Will be able to give consistent subjective review along with objective proof of performance of machine control systems, machine hydraulics, machine kinematics.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

- Optimizing grade control systems to get premium performance from heavy equipment

- Development of test plans and test estimates

- Execution and documentation of on-machine tests

- Written and verbal communication of test results

- Trouble-shooting complex problems on various controls systems on machines

- Conducting machine test set-ups and tear-downs

- Assistance with customer support and training

- Ability/Willingness to travel, max 25%-30%

Qualifications - ExternalBasic Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of experience in the use of earthmoving equipment in large road, sub divisional, earthmoving projects. Extensive experience on the motor grader, bulldozer and hydraulic excavator are required.

  • 5 or more years experience utilizing Trimble Earthworks, Trimble GCS900 and Cat Grade. Some knowledge of other machine control systems would be preferred but not required .

The Ideal Candidate will have the following:
  • Experience in theory and tuning of PID control loops for earthmoving or machines

  • Understanding of software filtering and how they affect signals.

  • Knowledge of CAN, Ethernet, Wifi and Serial communication protocols.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a global team

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace apps.

  • Experience in software or system testing

  • Experience with electrical systems, hydraulic systems and control systems

  • Experience with product development projects and processes at the machine, system or subsystem level

  • Experience in Trimble Construction GNSS and UTS surveying workflows.

  • Experience with CAN logging softwares such as CANalyzer or CANape.

  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude as well as manual dexterity to work in a machine test environment.
