Job Description

We are looking for a Senior/Principal Materials Engineer to join the Elastomers Engineering team in Milan, OH. This position will be responsible for development of natural rubber anti-vibration rubber formulations, establishing mixing procedures for new formulations and molding parameters when required based on new formulations for our global mixing/manufacturing operations. This position involves advanced physical testing procedures to measure and model elastomer formulation behavior for FEA simulations. Selection of correct adhesive systems based on formulation and substrate requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Elastomer formulation development, with at least 3 years of experience developing natural rubber formulations for anti-vibration automotive parts.
  • Develops and implements new test methods and evaluation of new laboratory equipment.
  • Work with internal customers to understand their product formulation and material testing requirements.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing lab equipment and test methods.
  • Evaluate new adhesive and substrate coating to meet evolving corrosion protection customer requirements.
  • Evaluates new raw materials for their applicability to anti-vibration product requirements.
  • Evaluates new suppliers of existing materials to assist GSCM in raw material cost management.
  • Support global materials engineers in formulation development.
  • Support formulation standardization for customer global vehicle platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Broad knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and protocols
  • Experience developing natural rubber formulations
  • Quality and precision focused. Shows great care in following established testing protocols.

EDUCATION:

  • Preferred: Master's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science
  • Minimum: Bachelor of Science in STEM field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred: 5 yrs. NR formulation development for anti-vibration automotive parts. Experience with EPDM, SBR, BR, IIR, BIIR formulations for anti-vibration products
  • Minimum Experience: 3 yrs. NR formulation development for anti-vibration automotive parts
