Job Summary

Responsible for supporting Avient's efforts in the research and development of polymer products. Support includes primary processing as well as secondary processing and product characterization using equipment including single and twin screw extruders and injection molding machines. The primary focus will be on melt compounding and reactive extrusion operations.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct work in a safe, respectful and ethical manner
  • Set-up, operate, modify, and maintain melt compounding equipment
  • Process experimental materials in a consistent and reproducible manner for the purpose of scientific advancement
  • Configure and execute an experimental program with technical resources
  • Using state-of-the-art controls and data acquisition systems, obtain samples and record relevant data
  • Conduct various analysis and quality control testing to support operations within the process area
  • Support projects related to product development, process development and application development
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word
  • Document activities and results in electronic laboratory notebook
  • Support equipment maintenance, spare parts inventory and record keeping
  • Maintain an organized and clean operating environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Familiarity with polymer processing is preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and bring projects to completion in a timely fashion
  • Must be able to effectively communicate one-on-one and in small group situations
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to use wide variety of standard equipment and ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly to utilize software related to specific techniques

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects or controls
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Requires use of safety equipment as dictated by work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc
  • Work is inside and typical noise level fluctuates from moderate to loud
