The AGCO Acceleration Center is looking for a highly talented Data Science Intern to join our team at the Research Park for Spring 2022 and beyond. Rapid advancements in data availability and technology are helping to accelerate agricultural transformation. AGCO is looking for a data science intern with a passion for analytics and a desire to support farmers sustainably feeding our world to join our team. The Data Science Intern is a position that will support the Strategy and Transformation team in developing forecasting models to better predict demand for agricultural equipment in the US.

This role will create an econometric or other type of advanced analytics model that will predict industry demand annually for different tractor HP ranges and other types of farm machinery in the US. Being able to leverage scenario planning on commodity prices, economic inputs to identify when key business decision points need to be made (ex: what corn price results in the need to move to an additional factory shift) will be another key output of the model in addition to a measure of model accuracy and fit. This is an exciting project that will have a meaningful impact to the way we run our business and will enable AGCO to better support our customers with product availability and the right time and place so they can get the job done.

What You Will Do

• Annual industry forecasts that can be updated monthly for various products
• Establish econometric or other type of model for each region x product that forecasts the current year, next year, +5 years into the future
• Identify key economic factors that work together to best predict Industry equipment demand by region and HP range, product type
• Be able to leverage scenario planning on commodity prices, economic inputs to identify key business decision points (ex: what price results in the need to move to an additional factory shift) will be another key output of the model
• Quantify model accuracy
• Throughout the current year
• Over the CY +5 horizon
• Include the variability of the forecast inputs to the model to generate confidence bands around product industry forecast

What You Will Bring

• Must be a full-time registered student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
• Business level skills in English (company language); other languages are an advantage
• At least one year of data science-related experience (e.g. internship, academic projects, etc.)
• Creative thinking and confidence to suggest initiatives and challenge the status quo

A Plus If You Have/Are

• Strong presentation and communications skills
• Experience in Data Science/Engineering, Econometrics or Business/Marketing with strong focus on analytics
• Strong statistical toolset and experience in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS)
• Experience with Tableau and APIs to create dashboards and automate workflow
• Strong customer orientation
• Structured and process oriented

Additional Details:

• This is a paid, part-time internship for Spring 2022 at the AGCO Acceleration Center in the University of Illinois' Research Park in Champaign, IL. Students are required to work 10-20 hours a week.
• Based on performance, this internship can continue across several semesters (i.e. full time in the summer, part time during the academic school year).
