Managing Attorney, Insurance Defense - Bodily Injury

Our Cleveland House Counsel litigation team has an exciting opportunity for a talented people leader. As our Managing Attorney, you will be a part of the Ohio House Counsel management team leading and supervising a team of attorneys. Providing legal representation to our Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies your team of attorneys will be handling cases from beginning to end.

In this role, you will also take on responsibilities such as making employment decisions, handling performance management, monitoring the department budget, making compensation decisions, developing employees and handling a small case load.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school required
  • Active license to practice law in Ohio required
  • 5 years of legal experience required
  • 8 years of insurance defense litigation experience preferred
  • Previous leadership experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Significant legal experience with a thorough understanding and working knowledge of applicable laws and rules of evidence, civil procedure, trial practice and tort
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of medical and other technical information
  • Ability to recognize and understand the legal issues in personal injury and insurance coverage litigation
  • Effectiveness as a team member and independently
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills with claims/clients/customers
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and diary maintenance
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Good work ethic with an understanding of all applicable ethical duties
  • Computer proficiency with the ability and willingness to learn new or updated computer software and programs
  • Ability and willingness to learn and follow existing and new processes and procedures
  • Good research skills
