The Landfill Manager position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with EPA regulations. The Landfill Manager is also responsible for the adherence to landfill operating standards, development of supervisory goals and objectives, and management of labor hours and expenses. The Landfill Manager ensures the highest standards of environmental safety and environmental compliance are met while minimizing operational costs and maximizing productivity.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Develop and maintain the operational business plan to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle production costs and image.
  • Maintain landfill to meet requirements for EPA regulations and inspections.
  • Obtains and tracks production/quality control data.
  • Implements landfill development plans, meeting facility needs, and recommends equipment needs.
  • Monitor and enforce quality/safety standards while ensuring all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
  • Manage landfill operations in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Develop/tracks budget/cost controls and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications.
  • Provide guidance to the development of landfill including staffing requirements, facility, tooling, and equipment needs.
  • Coordinate landfill activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum productions and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Review production/operating reports and direct the resolution of operations and maintenance problems to minimize costs and prevents operational delays.
  • Perform administrative activities associated with the effective management of landfill personnel, including performance evaluations, monitoring and tracking employee attendance, complete disciplinary actions/meetings, and all other required documentation relating to performance management.
  • Determine responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
  • Train all organizational and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
  • Maintain proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Must be able to pass state EPA certification.
  • Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certification, preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with others.
  • Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows/Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent customer relations and personnel management skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand landfill set grades using a surveyor's instrument.
  • Must be familiar with EPA requirements regarding landfill.
  • Must have P & L experience, (analyze, advise and preparatory).
  • Must demonstrate experience in problem solving, leadership, quality management, planning, organizing.

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelors of Relevant field (preferred)
Associates of Relevant field (preferred)
General Education Diploma (preferred)
High School (preferred)

Experience
Construction background, a plus (preferred)
Previous Waste Industry Experience (preferred)
Previous Management Experience (preferred)
3 years: Landfill or Equivalent Experience (required)
5 years: Experience Operating Heavy Equipment (required)
