Position Summary:

This position will work within our dynamic Safety and Health Department. The role will conduct personal exposure monitoring for respirable crystalline silica, lead, hexavalent chromium, noise, and other health hazards as identified by the Safety & Health staff. This role will allow you to continuously learn throughout your career at Kokosing. This position is located in our Westerville office, but includes travel to our field projects to conduct assessments, sampling, sample shipment and report preparation. Data collected from reports and sampling results will be entered into the company's propriatary Industrial Hygiene Database and update documents under the direction of the Safety and Health Systems Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Typical tasks include: the collection of suspect asbestos/lead containing materials, PCBs, mold air and tape lift samples,
  • The completion of chain of custody forms, sample locations plans, the preparation of detailed field notes, and collection of photographs as needed.
  • The use of various instruments to investigate air quality, exposures to environmental contaminants, and potentially other equipment. The calibration of all equipment as required
  • Basic maintenance of equipment in use and sending to third party service provider as needed.
  • Monitor sampling supplies and order additional materials as needed.
  • Perform exposure monitoring using sampling pumps, noise dosimeters, and other IH monitoring equipment.
  • Collect samples in accordance with acceptable industrial hygiene policies and practices as well as required by various regulatory agencies, complete data sheets, chain of custody forms, and prepare samples for shipment to laboratory.
  • Operate and maintain instruments including sampling pumps, rotameters, and calibrators.
  • Maintain daily logs of activities related to project work.
  • Record events and circumstances contributing to exposure results, for the purpose of interpretation by a senior safety staff member or Industrial Hygienist as needed.
  • Interact and communicate with team members across multiple sites.
  • Prepare sampling result reports and document any findings in the proprietary Industrial Hygiene SharePoint Database
  • Assignments will require travel. Primarily travel will in include assignments in OH, IN, WV, and KY.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Pursuing a BS Degree in Industrial Hygiene or another related field (co-op/internship opportunity).
  • Prior experience in construction is a plus.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Self-confidence, motivation, and strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene or another related field
  • 2+ yrs of work experience
  • Job may require after-hours work and some travel
  • Competent in high school level mathematics a minimum
  • Able to effectively prioritize assignments
  • Excellent English language technical writing and editing

  • Adaptable and flexible to various work schedules and situations related to emergency response scenarios.

  • Ability to carry and climb ladders and being able to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to wear a respirator, safety harness and other safety equipment as needed.
