About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

The position is classified as mobile with a reporting location of Akron, OH or Fairmont, WV.

The position is part of the Compliance & Procedures (C&P) team within the Transmission Operations Services department. The C&P team is responsible for ensuring Transmission Operations compliance as well as creating, revising, and maintaining technical documents used by Transmission Operations and other Transmission departments. These documents are critical for the transmission grid operation and essential in maintaining grid reliability. The procedures support the transmission system operators and engineers to operate the grid safely and efficiently in accordance with industry standards and in compliance with NERC and PJM regulations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Authoring and revising operating procedures, reference documents, desk guides, and associated documents.
  • Collaborating and partnering with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from each relevant department to obtain necessary information and ensure accurate documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Managing document content and maintaining a controlled document repository.
  • Measuring, tracking, and analyzing data to assess and improve customer/stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Demonstrating professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills in working with customers/stakeholders to answer questions and concerns about documents produced and resolve differences in professional opinion.
  • Working on other specialized projects as needed and presenting to various levels of management.
  • Identifying internal process enhancements and striving toward increasing efficiency.
  • Estimating project timelines and tracking project tasks and hours to meet customer/stakeholder needs.
  • Demonstrating foresight to recognize innovative solutions and/or other business needs.


Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Business, or related field and two (2) years of related experience or Associate degree and four (4) years of related experience. In lieu of degree, six (6) years of related experience is required.
    • Related experience includes writing operating procedures, instruction manuals, technical descriptors, and reports in a technical environment.
  • Ability to write clearly, accurately, and concisely to effectively convey ideas in procedures, technical documents, educational material, reports, letters, and memos.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with customers and stakeholders and guide decision-making or consensus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to manage, organize and prioritize work, while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Independently drive assignments and document creations/revisions to completion to meet established deadlines.
  • Professional Procedures Association (PPA) certification preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and work modified schedules when necessary.
