Overview

Performs research experiments and clinical studies in accordance with provisions of the approved protocol under the direction of Dr. Sudarshan R. Jadcherla, Director of the Neonatal and Infant Feeding Disorders Program. The qualified individual maintains records of experiments and prepares laboratory reports; assists in analyzing data and preparing publications with a specific focus on the aero-digestive tract utilizing manometry and pH/impedance methods. Responsibilities
    Performs clinical research studies independently or semi-independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Such experiments may involve the use of human subjects and may require evening and/or weekend duties.
  • Responsible for data collection utilizing various pieces of equipment while adhering to proper safety techniques and procedures.
  • Responsible for data analysis, reports, and interpretation with input from the principal investigator and/or other lab staff, while ensuring accuracy of laboratory analytical procedures.
  • Also responsible for patient information and maintaining accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Assists the principal investigator in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals in regards to assigned specific research projects.
  • Meet departmental goals in areas of customer support and satisfaction.
  • Must feel comfortable with computers and equipment and maintain a clean working area.
  • Responsible for laboratory equipment maintenance and repair with good communication skills to work with manufacturers, vendors, and other lab staff.
  • Instructs/assists other lab staff and students in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations.
  • Performs any additional clinical and research duties as assigned by the program Principal Investigator.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in signals/imaging OR Bachelor of Science degree with a strong interest in clinical research.
  • Strong interest in equipment maintenance/repair and technical support.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required in interactions with all levels of NCH staff.
  • Excellent telephone, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform studies at patient's bedside in a NICU environment.
  • Ability to think creatively in a stressful environment.
  • Demonstrates competency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) with an eagerness to learn new software.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, organize, and document.
  • Ability to work as a team.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Independently lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Typing on a computer keyboard
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time
  • Works in an open, partitioned environment
