Job Description

Job Summary:

The Director, Risk & Insurance has overall responsibility for the organization's insurance and reinsurance programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the organization's captive reinsurance companies and look for ways to leverage captive structure
  • Maintain relationships with brokers, carriers, and third-party vendors
  • Oversee the purchase of all insurance and reinsurance coverage for the organization
  • Negotiate and manage risk transfer agreements associated with stop-loss and quota share programs in order to manage risk and regulatory capital
  • Direct and monitor company's claims submission and adjudication procedures for all lines of insurance and reinsurance coverage
  • Partner with accounting and actuarial staff to establish and monitor reinsurance-level claim reserves
  • Partner with internal and external legal counsel to negotiate and finalize insurance and reinsurance contracts
  • Serve as the insurance subject matter expert for the company for all lines of commercial insurance coverage; support contract reviews as necessary
  • Lead M&A due diligence and acquisition integration efforts around insurance and reinsurance-related issues
  • Perform any other job duties as requested

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or Accounting or equivalent years of relevant work experience is required
  • Experience operating and managing captive insurance companies, preferably within the healthcare or insurance industry
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in financial and risk management related fields in large corporate environment required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience required
  • Experience with national insurance brokers required
  • Experience with M&A due diligence and acquisition integration preferred

Competencies, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Broad knowledge of corporate risk management functions, insurance marketplace, and all major insurance lines
  • Broad knowledge of commercial and alternative risk reinsurance structures and operations
  • MS Office expert proficiency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills, including judgment/decision making; conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others, internally and externally, at all levels
  • Ability to work independently
  • Critical listening and thinking skills

Licensure and Certification:

  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred

Working Conditions:

  • General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time

Compensation Range:
$130,300.00 - $228,100.00 CareSource takes into consideration a combination of a candidate's education, training, and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role, and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level.
