Job Purpose:

This position serves to assist the VP Tax Manager with tax accounting matters for the organization, assuming responsibility for tax compliance matters. The role is responsible for assistance in interpreting, analyzing, and providing tax guidance and support to the VP Tax Manager in regards to new and technical matters. Coordination between third parties providing tax assistance / support will also be the responsibility of this position. Will serve as a resource for ad hoc analysis for cross-functional activities.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for tax compliance, including timely filings of state and federal returns, tax payments, etc., which includes coordination with third parties used to assist.
  • Responsible for assistance with tax compliance and related tax accounting with regards to new products / services, new accounting pronouncements, etc.
  • Responsible for assistance with mergers and acquisitions from a tax perspective as it relates to due diligence and the proper tax treatment of the transaction and ongoing tax compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP and SOX as it relates to tax matters and controls.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient and productive working environment within the department based on continuous and effective communication with the VP Tax Manager.
  • Responsible for reviewing journal entries and reconciliations as assigned, identifying discrepancies, and collaborating across departments to resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Responsible for reviewing and ensuring accuracy of the fixed asset subledger, assisting with identifying and resolving discrepancies, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assistance with monitoring workflow to ensure timely completion of tax responsibilities.
  • Assistance with department process improvements including seeking out efficiencies, error reduction, and quality control.
  • Will perform special projects as assigned.

Education, Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation (preferred).
  • Preferred 4-5 years of experience in tax role with detailed understanding and experience with Accounting Standards Codification 740.
  • Recent public accounting experience (desired).
  • Bank experience in accounting with a financial institution (desired).
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions (desired).
  • Experience with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) (desired).
  • Discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both written and verbal formats.
  • Excellent analytical and tax skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and perform detailed tasks.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independent of direct supervision.
  • Collaborative, ability to facilitate, lead, and execute on projects.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in tax role.
