Scope of Position

Medical Information Management Coding Trainees serving in the coding apprenticeship program focus primarily on coding in the hospital setting with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4. Trainees learn different types of accounts that cover all body systems and chapters in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4. Periodic Assessments are given to gauge performance and understanding. The trainee reviews information in the computer assisted coding and electronic medical record systems, select codes, and enters abstracted information into the electronic billing system. The length of the program is four-six months. At the end of that period, full time coding positions may be offered to trainees who meet performance objectives.
