Portfolio Strategy Analyst

General Summary:

Researches and develops analyses of various investment, funding, and hedging tactics and recommends potential actions to limit risks and/or to enhance returns. Responsible for Model Validation and End User Computing (EUC) policy compliance for all trading desk models and tools.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches, summarizes, and communicates market data describing current and long term trends in the fixed income and derivative markets and recommends market metrics to guide investment decisions and benchmarking of results.
  • Participates in investment, debt issuance, derivatives management, and market risk analyses in accordance with approved financial management strategies and policy limits.
  • Performs related ad hoc and portfolio optimization analyses utilizing software, interprets results, and recommends potential strategies to limit market risk and/or to enhance returns.
  • Designs, implements, and tests various Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) and derivative analytical tools, as well as reporting capabilities.
  • Researches and designs periodic analyses concerning various financial transactions and related material (MBS, liquidity investments, cash management, structured debt and Interest Rate Swaps).Reviews reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develops, maintains, and documents new or enhanced processes and systems. Collaborates with department management to assure processes are well documented and updated annually at minimum, or when processes change and cross trains with staff to ensure adequate backup.
  • Generates and updates market pricing data for structured Advances and provides indications for new transactions and termination of existing transactions. Assists with the development of Advance pricing models and contributes to the development of new Advance products.
  • Interacts with the dealer community to obtain market information regarding fixed-income and derivative instruments. Maintains proficiency in Agency spreads and market rates on a variety of instruments to provide market color to the trading staff and senior management.
  • Maintains a high level of familiarity with regulatory requirements and develops processes to comply in an optimal manner in areas such as liquidity, Advance pricing, and others where necessary.
  • Interacts with ERM to coordinate analyses, enhance modeling assumptions, and participate in cross-functional knowledge sharing.
  • Performs other duties and completes special projects as assigned by management.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, mathematics, quantitative analysis, economics, business administration or accounting.
  • Two years of progressively responsible related work experience with exposure to financial, quantitative, and/or risk analysis and asset liability management.
  • Knowledge of the financial industry particularly derivative instruments, cash management, fixed income securities, Federal funds, money market instruments, derivatives, MBS and market risk metrics preferred.
  • Intermediate Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills. Ability to work with third party systems and Information Systems programmers to define specifications and test results. Proficiency in data analysis with the ability to derive insights from data preferred.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to develop and interpret a variety of complex reports and analyses and to coordinate the accurate and timely completion of projects. Ability to work in an unstructured dynamic environment.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to grasp complex financial concepts and mathematical calculations.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with internal and external contacts.Ability to produce written transaction/strategy synopses.
  • High degree of initiative. Ability to readily accept changing job responsibilities and deadlines.

Working Conditions:

Requires the daily use of a personal computer and Bloomberg terminal. Flexibility to meet changing deadlines and occasionally work outside normal business hours. Hybrid work environment.
