The Performance Engineer is responsible for monitoring and diagnosing equipment and performance issues for AES wind generation facilities using EtaPRO's Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) and other analytical software. Responsible for providing sophisticated condition monitoring and data analyses of critical plant systems and components. Works with plant personnel regularly and collaborates with internal domain experts to diagnose developing plant and equipment related problems. Collects, processes, and analyzes data for plant performance metrics and assessment reports (e.g. monthly KPI reports, variable margin loss analysis, etc.).

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and use APR software models and plant operational data to detect changes in the operating behavior of plant equipment and systems.
  • Perform daily monitoring of site critical components that have installed models actively collecting data using sophisticated analytics software.
  • Respond, evaluate, and prioritize alarms for potential equipment-related issues, get along with station personnel, and provide recommendations to optimize plant equipment and systems.
  • Support and work with component Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assess equipment anomalies.
  • Monitor equipment performance and predict component health, alerting SMEs and site personnel of anomalies within those trends that could adversely affect the reliability, availability, maintainability, and performance of equipment.
  • Communicate equipment anomalies to plant operations, engineering personnel and plant technical analysts.
  • Work with power plant staff to troubleshoot and resolve operational problems identified by the performance software models
  • Identify and classify associated risks to the plant, provide recommendations to mitigate risks, and follow up to ensure resolutions are tracked through to completion.
  • Develop technical assessments/analyses that will improve operational performance and reliability to meet operational targets or understand the deviations from it.
  • Provides analysis in areas such as KPI performance against targets & goals
  • Update, retrain, and evaluate the adequacy of existing analytic and performance software models.
  • Capture and quantify avoided costs to express the value of team activities. Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric power industry regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Developing, implementing, and operating performance monitoring programs is highly desired.
    • ASME Performance Test Codes and IEC Wind Standards. Experience with Advanced Pattern Recognition and/or diagnostic tools.
    • GE, Siemens, Vestas or other OEM wind turbine engineering or operating experience. Experience with power plant controls and control logic.
    • OSI PI data historian and EtaPRO is a plus. Experience with vibration analysis of rotating equipment.
    • Rotating components such as gearboxes, wind turbines, generators, and field instrumentation. Familiarity with condition-based Maintenance programs and technology applications.
    • Advanced analytics, Pattern Recognition and performance software or other reliability or condition-based predictive diagnosis software applications.
    • Condition monitoring and diagnostic technologies.
  • Effective English communication and technical report writing skills are required.
  • Must be proficient with various software programs and systems (e.g., MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as database use.
