Company OverviewHopewell’s program is based on the concept of treating individuals with mental illness as human beings deserving of kindness, respect, and genuine concern, affording them the opportunity of living among accepting people in a peaceful and supportive setting. An inspirational model for this has been Gould Farm.In 1913, Gould Farm was established in Monterey, Massachusetts, taking in troubled people. Gould Farm evolved over the years into a community where mentally ill “guests” and their families lived and worked together year round. Gould farmers practiced “sustainable” agriculture, played and worked together, and lived in a community in which all members were not only expected to contribute, but to contribute if the farm was to survive. Hopewell staff and directors carefully evaluated the Gould Farm model of rehabilitation, and recognized the need to develop a similar program in Ohio. Hopewell was born in 1996, and it continues to flourish and grow. |
